Suspect Arrested in Fatal Chula Vista Shooting Incident on Center Street

Chula Vista, California – A suspect has been apprehended in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred late Saturday night in the city. The Chula Vista Police Department reported that officers responded to reports of a shooting at 11:17 p.m. on Center Street, near Third Avenue.

Authorities discovered a 36-year-old male from San Diego inside a truck with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. Despite life-saving efforts, the victim succumbed to his injuries upon arrival at the hospital. The victim’s identity has not been disclosed at this time.

Following witness accounts, the suspects reportedly fled the scene in an older white pickup truck with distinct markings. A patrolling officer later identified a vehicle matching the description traveling westbound on H Street, leading to the detention of two individuals who matched the suspects’ descriptions.

One of the individuals was identified as 32-year-old Christian Benavides from San Diego, who was subsequently arrested and booked on murder charges at the San Diego County Jail. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities actively collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
