A reported stabbing at Garden Oaks Village brought more than a dozen police vehicles to the area as officers contained a barricaded suspect.
HOUSTON, Texas — A police standoff at a northwest Houston apartment complex disrupted North Shepherd Drive Friday evening after officers responding to a reported stabbing found a suspect barricaded inside a unit, authorities said.
The Houston Police Department responded after 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, to the Garden Oaks Village apartment complex in the 4400 block of North Shepherd Drive. Police said a man had reportedly been stabbed and a suspect remained inside an apartment at the scene.
The response quickly became a large police operation around the complex. More than a dozen police vehicles were observed at the scene, and northbound lanes of Shepherd Drive were closed as officers maintained positions around the property.
The closure placed the police activity directly along a major north-south roadway in the area while the incident continued. Authorities had not announced how long the lanes would remain affected or when normal traffic could resume.
Officers were seen outside the apartment complex with firearms drawn during the response. Smoke later appeared to be coming from an apartment, adding another visible concern as police continued surrounding the area. Officials had not said what produced the smoke or whether a fire had started inside.
Information about the reported stabbing remained limited. Police had not identified the injured man, disclosed his medical condition or described the events that led to the confrontation. The identity of the barricaded suspect also had not been released.
Authorities had not said whether the two people knew each other or whether anyone else was inside the apartment. There also was no confirmed public account of what happened between the initial stabbing report and the prolonged barricade.
The police presence and road closure underscored the immediate effect of the incident beyond the apartment itself, but significant questions remained unresolved. In the latest verified reports, police had not announced a final custody outcome or possible criminal charges.
