Sheriff: Husband Shot Wife Before Turning Gun on Himself

Investigators say preliminary evidence indicates the husband shot his wife before turning the gun on himself outside their west Harris County home.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A woman died and her husband was critically injured Friday after a shooting outside their west Harris County home that authorities are investigating as a domestic violence incident, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Harris County Precinct 5 deputies responded Aug. 28 to the 7400 block of Casuna Lane, where authorities said they found the husband and wife suffering from gunshot wounds at an intersection near their home. Both were taken to area hospitals. The woman was pronounced dead, while the man remained hospitalized in critical condition.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said preliminary information gathered by investigators indicates the husband shot his wife multiple times before turning the gun on himself. Authorities have described the shooting as an isolated incident related to domestic violence. The investigation remained active, and officials had not publicly identified either person as of Saturday.

Investigators had not released details about what happened before the shooting or what may have led to the violence. Authorities also had not announced a motive beyond describing the case as domestic violence-related. The sheriff’s office has not released the ages of the husband or wife.

The couple has three children, ages 4, 11 and 13, Gonzalez said. All three children were at school when the shooting occurred and were not at the scene, according to authorities. No additional injuries were reported.

Precinct 5 deputies were the first officers to respond to the Casuna Lane location. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office later took responsibility for the investigation as detectives worked to determine the full sequence of events surrounding the shooting.

Early information released after the shooting described only a man and woman found wounded in the intersection. Authorities later said the two were married and lived at the nearby home, and investigators disclosed their preliminary finding that the husband had shot his wife before shooting himself.

The man’s medical condition remained critical in the latest information released by authorities. The woman’s identity had not been made public, and investigators had not announced any additional findings about the circumstances that preceded the shooting.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation is ongoing as detectives continue reviewing the evidence and circumstances surrounding the couple’s deaths and injuries.
