Pregnant Wife, Husband Found Dead in Westwood Home

Investigators have not identified the man and pregnant woman or announced what may have led to the fatal shooting.

LOS ANGELES — A man and a pregnant woman were found shot to death inside a Westwood home early Friday, and Los Angeles police are investigating the case as a possible murder-suicide.

Officers were sent to the residence in the 1300 block of Holmby Avenue at about 5:40 a.m. July 10 after a neighbor reported hearing gunfire, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Police entered the home and found the man and woman with fatal gunshot wounds.

The Los Angeles Fire Department pronounced both people dead at the scene. Authorities had not released their names as of Saturday, and police said the investigation remained active.

Preliminary evidence indicated that the man shot the woman before dying by suicide, an LAPD spokesperson told the Los Angeles Times. Police continued to describe the case as a possible murder-suicide and had not announced a motive or released a detailed account of the evidence found inside the home.

Authorities have not publicly confirmed the relationship between the two people. Neighbors told KTLA that they were husband and wife and appeared to be in their 40s. The news station also reported that the woman was about eight and a half months pregnant.

Neighbor Rich Schultz said the couple had been expecting their first child and held a baby shower on July 4. He described them as affectionate and said he had not noticed any outward sign that something was wrong.

“They seemed like a pretty happy couple, talking, walking hand-in-hand,” Schultz told KTLA.

The deaths drew investigators and emergency crews to the residential block Friday morning as officers worked to establish a timeline and determine what happened before the gunfire was reported. Police did not disclose whether a firearm had been recovered or whether anyone else was believed to have been inside the home.

No arrests were expected based on the preliminary murder-suicide theory, but investigators had not announced a final determination. The identities and official causes and manners of death remained pending release by authorities.
