One Killed, Six Wounded at Eastvale House Party

Homicide detectives are investigating the Saturday night shooting, with no arrests or suspect information announced as of Tuesday.

EASTVALE, Calif. — One person was killed and six others were wounded after gunfire broke out at a house party in Eastvale late Saturday, authorities said, leaving homicide investigators working to determine what led to the shooting and who was responsible.

Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Jurupa Valley Station were sent to the 7000 block of Morning Hills Drive at 11:13 p.m. Oct. 17 after a report of unknown trouble and a possible shooting, according to the Sheriff’s Office. They found seven people with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds. One person was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other six were taken to local hospitals for treatment.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit took over the investigation. Authorities have not announced any arrests, identified a suspect or disclosed a possible motive. The department also has not released the ages or identities of the people who were wounded or information about their conditions. The identity of the person who died was initially withheld pending notification of relatives.

ABC7 reported that the shooting happened during a party at a home near Morning Hills Drive and Maggie Lane. Neighbor Sandy Sanders told the station she heard a series of gunshots from her home. She said there was a brief pause between bursts of gunfire and described the aftermath in the residential neighborhood as chaotic.

Sanders also told ABC7 that one of the wounded people made it into her backyard after leaving the shooting scene. She said a neighbor who is a law enforcement officer encountered that person there. Authorities have not publicly described that person’s role in the events surrounding the shooting, and officials have not said whether everyone who was wounded had been attending the party.

Residents interviewed by ABC7 said the gathering had not seemed unusually loud before the shooting and that they did not recall hearing an argument before the gunfire. Those accounts have not established what led to the shooting, and investigators have released few details about the sequence of events inside or around the property.

The Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded after receiving the initial report and that homicide detectives were called to the scene. Officials have not said how many firearms may have been involved, whether investigators believe one or multiple people fired shots, or whether a weapon was recovered. No description of a possible shooter had been released as of Tuesday.

The shooting left investigators with several central questions still unanswered, including what happened immediately before the gunfire and whether the person responsible remained in the area afterward. Authorities have not announced any arrests or publicly identified a motive, and the homicide investigation remains active.
