Nassau County DA Addresses Stabbing of Canine, Offers Reward for Attacker’s Arrest

HEMPSTEAD, NASSAU COUNTY, N.Y. – District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly addressed the public on Dec. 28, providing an update on the case of Cornell, a canine who miraculously survived being stabbed 17 times a month ago. The assailant remains unidentified, leaving a community on edge and demanding justice for the brutal attack.

At the news conference, Cornell made a heartwarming appearance, showcasing a speedy recovery from his injuries. Donnelly comforted the resilient pup before detailing his assault, emphasizing the urgency in finding the perpetrator responsible for such a heinous act.

Found on Washport Avenue in Freeport last month, Cornell was taken to Bobbi and the Strays, a no-kill organization dedicated to finding homes for abandoned and abused animals. From there, he was moved to the Hempstead animal shelter and then to a Farmingdale veterinary hospital for treatment. Despite the severity of the attack, Cornell’s lungs were drained, and his wounds were cleaned, stapled, and sewn, leading to a remarkable turnaround.

The question of who and why this happened remains unanswered, prompting Donnelly to urge the community to come forward with any information. As the former Nassau County’s animal crimes prosecutor, she emphasized the serious nature of such offenses, emphasizing the potential danger posed by individuals who harm animals.

Nassau County SPCA’s Gary Rogers has offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Cornell’s attacker. While the search for justice continues, efforts are also underway to find a loving home for Cornell, who has shown resilience and a gentle nature throughout his recovery process.

The community is rallying behind Cornell, expressing outrage and a desire to see his attacker face charges for the malicious act. As the investigation unfolds, authorities are calling on the public to come forward with any information that could lead to identifying those responsible for Cornell’s harrowing ordeal.
