Man Sentenced to 45 Years for Brutal Attack and Rape of Former Partner

Star, Idaho – A man from Star, Idaho has been sentenced to 45 years in prison for a brutal attack on a former partner. 47-year-old Matthew Blazek received his sentence after being found guilty by an Ada County jury on charges including rape, use of a deadly weapon, forcible penetration, domestic violence, and attempted strangulation.

The incident occurred in July 2023 when Blazek broke into his former girlfriend’s home through a window. He proceeded to assault her over several hours, in front of her young child, leaving her with extensive injuries. The victim managed to call the police after Blazek left and reported the horrifying attack.

Following the jury’s conviction in January, the judge determined that Blazek posed a high risk of re-offending, describing his behavior as “predatory.” Blazek is to spend a minimum of 20 years in prison before parole eligibility, with the possibility of serving up to 45 years. If he serves the full term, he will be 92 years old upon release.

The severity of the crimes committed by Blazek has shocked the community in Star, Idaho. Many are now advocating for stricter measures to prevent such violence from occurring in the future. The case also highlights the importance of supporting victims of domestic violence and ensuring that perpetrators face justice for their actions.

Blazek’s sentencing serves as a reminder of the devastating impact that domestic violence can have on individuals and families. It underscores the need for society to address and combat such behavior effectively to create a safer environment for all. The victim’s courage in coming forward and seeking justice is commendable and serves as an inspiration for others in similar situations.
