Man out on parole arrested for brutal stabbing of elderly woman in Bronx elevator

The Bronx, New York- A 75-year-old woman was brutally stabbed in an unprovoked attack inside an elevator in the Bronx. The assailant, Edwin Rios, who was out on parole at the time, followed the victim into her apartment building and repeatedly stabbed her in the hands and head. The victim, Zenona Ramos, managed to seek help by banging on doors covered in blood, leading a neighbor to call 911. Exclusive video footage captured the suspect casually leaving the scene after the violent attack.

Ramos is currently in stable condition at St. Barnabas Hospital and is expected to survive. However, she sustained stab wounds to her face and hands, requiring 40 stitches on one hand to close the cuts. Recounting the horrific ordeal, Ramos described how she begged the suspect to spare her life, citing her family. Her daughter revealed that after the assault, Rios callously remarked, “take care,” before departing.

This is not the first time Rios has been linked to a violent crime. In 2012, he was charged with attempted murder after following a woman off a bus in Queens and stabbing her twice in the back. Despite being released on parole in August, his violent tendencies resurfaced in the recent Bronx attack. The victim’s daughter expressed frustration at the system’s failure to prevent the repeat offense.

Rios now faces charges of attempted murder in connection to the Bronx incident. The community has been left in shock and outrage over the brutal attack on the elderly woman. As the victim continues to recover from her injuries, questions arise about the effectiveness of the parole system in monitoring individuals with violent histories. The gravity of the situation has sparked conversations about the need for stricter measures to prevent such senseless acts of violence from reoccurring.
