OROVILLE, Calif. – A man named Asaahdi Coleman was found guilty of second-degree murder for opening fire on a Greyhound bus in Oroville, California, in 2022. The shooting resulted in multiple injuries and the death of one passenger, 43-year-old Karin Dolton. Coleman, 23, a resident of Sacramento, was convicted by a jury on charges of second-degree murder and attempted murder with gun enhancements. Although acquitted of three counts of attempted murder, Coleman was identified as a member of a Sacramento gang.
According to Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey, Coleman’s defense attorney argued during the trial that Coleman’s undisclosed mental illness impaired his ability to form intent to kill. Ramsey stated that Coleman is facing a possible sentence of up to 74 years to life in prison and could be eligible for parole after 25 years under California’s 2019 Youthful Offender Parole law.
