Henryetta, Oklahoma – One year after the tragic murder of five innocent teens by a convicted rapist, a memorial ride is set to honor their lives.
The memorial ride, happening on Sunday, will pay tribute to Brittany Brewer, Ivy Webster, Tiffany Guess, Rylee Allen, and Michael Mayo. These young lives were cut short by Jesse McFadden, a convicted rapist who also killed his wife Holly before taking his own life.
According to the Medical Examiner’s report, some of the victims showed injuries consistent with sexual assault. McFadden had been released from prison after serving 17 years of a 20-year sentence for a previous rape conviction.
Outrage over McFadden’s release while awaiting prosecution for another crime committed in prison led to calls for tougher sentences and the closure of loopholes in the justice system.
In response to the tragedy, the Oklahoma House of Representatives passed House Bill 3992, also known as Knight’s Law. This bill aims to strengthen sex crime laws by making multiple offenses punishable by life in prison without the possibility of parole, in honor of the victims.
The memorial ride will kick off at Nichols Park in Henryetta, where families and friends will gather to remember the lives lost and raise awareness about the importance of knowing where children are and who they are with. Nathan Brewer, Brittany’s father and the organizer of the ride, hopes to prevent other families from enduring the same tragedy.
Participants in the ride can look forward to food trucks, vendors, live music, and a sense of community as they join together to remember the victims and advocate for greater awareness and protection of children. Riders are encouraged to pre-register for the event.
