Several homes were struck near East Papago Drive, but authorities reported no injuries and said there was no known ongoing threat.
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Scottsdale police said an early Sunday shooting that sent gunfire into several homes appears to have been an isolated incident, easing concerns about an ongoing neighborhood threat as detectives continue trying to determine what happened.
The police assessment came after multiple 911 callers reported hearing gunshots near 7300 E. Papago Drive. Responding officers found several shell casings in the street and determined that shots had been fired in several locations around one residence, including its front yard and backyard and the nearby street.
Other homes in the neighborhood also were struck by gunfire, police said. Despite the number of locations hit, authorities reported no injuries. No arrests were announced, and police had not identified a suspect or disclosed a possible motive in the latest information available.
The absence of reported injuries became a central part of the initial police response as investigators worked through a scene that extended beyond a single property. Officers questioned several people at the home connected to the investigation and also spoke with other residents in the surrounding neighborhood.
Police said Sunday that there was no known ongoing threat to the community. The department asked people to stay away from the area while officers and detectives collected evidence and continued their investigation.
Authorities have not explained why the gunfire began or whether any particular home or person was the intended target. Police also have not said whether investigators believe the shots came from one person or multiple people. Those questions remained unresolved Monday.
Information released so far shows investigators are relying on several types of evidence from the scene, including shell casings and interviews with people in the area. Police have not publicly disclosed whether additional physical evidence, surveillance footage or other records have been recovered.
The case remained under investigation Monday, with no arrests announced and no injuries reported. Scottsdale police continued to characterize the shooting as isolated while detectives worked to establish the circumstances behind the gunfire.
