Police said the victim, a 24-year-old GM employee, remained in critical condition.
ARLINGTON, Texas — A 26-year-old man was arrested Tuesday after police said he called 911 and reported his role in a shooting that wounded another man outside the General Motors assembly plant in Arlington.
Larry Hines was booked into the Arlington City Jail on one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Police said the victim, whose name has not been released, was shot multiple times in the plant parking lot and taken to a hospital in critical condition.
Officers were called about 6:35 a.m. to the plant in the 2500 block of East Abram Street. Police said the shooting happened as workers were leaving an overnight shift. Investigators said Hines and the victim knew each other and both worked at the plant. A verbal argument in the parking lot turned into a brief physical fight before shots were fired, police said.
Hines left the parking lot after the shooting, investigators said. A short time later, he called 911 from another location and told dispatchers he had been involved. Police found him at an apartment complex in the 4100 block of Viridian Village Drive and detained him without further incident.
Arlington police said coworkers and medical staff at the plant helped the wounded man before first responders arrived. Police spokesperson Tim Ciesco said GM provided evidence that was important to the investigation and that plant medical staff were already helping the victim when officers reached the scene.
No other injuries or property damage were reported. Police were still interviewing witnesses Tuesday and had not released what the argument was about. It was not immediately clear whether Hines had an attorney or when he would appear before a magistrate.
General Motors said the shooting involved two employees and said the company was cooperating with law enforcement. The company said its focus was on supporting the injured worker, his loved ones and the Arlington team.
The case remained under investigation Wednesday as police continued reviewing evidence and witness statements.
