Father Accused of Killing 4-Year-Old Daughter in Front-Yard Shooting

Trudale Reed faces murder, attempted murder and other charges after the Northside shooting.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Duval County judge denied bond Thursday for Trudale Reed, the 29-year-old father accused of killing his 4-year-old daughter and critically injuring her mother and younger sister in a Northside shooting.

Reed appeared in court with his right arm wrapped and in a sling as a judge read the charges tied to Tuesday’s shooting on Traci Lynn Drive. The case has moved from an emergency response to a criminal prosecution, with Reed held in jail pending trial on the most serious counts.

Authorities said officers found Brianna Johnson, 27, and her daughters, Harmoni Reed, 4, and Rhythm Reed, 2, suffering from gunshot wounds outside a home in the Highlands neighborhood. Harmoni died at the scene. Johnson and Rhythm were taken to hospitals in life-threatening condition, and family members later said they were still being treated.

Investigators said Reed was arguing with Johnson outside the home before firing multiple rounds, hitting her and both children. Police said he then drove away in a stolen SUV. Detectives with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit issued a lookout notice with a vehicle description, and officers found Reed about 20 minutes later.

Members of the sheriff’s Community Problem Response Team stopped Reed using a vehicle block and took him into custody without incident, police said. He was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries before being booked into the Duval County Pre-Trial Detention Center on Tuesday night.

Reed faces charges including second-degree murder with a weapon, two counts of attempted murder, aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement, shooting or throwing deadly missiles, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and grand theft auto. The judge ordered him to have no contact with witnesses or victims.

Court records cited in the case show Reed served time in prison from 2016 to 2019 for robbery with a deadly weapon tied to a 2015 incident. Records also show he was arrested on domestic battery charges in 2022 and July 2025, but both cases were later dropped after relatives declined to participate in prosecution.

Reed is scheduled to return to court July 23 to enter a plea. Johnson and Rhythm’s medical conditions remained the key unanswered question Friday, while the homicide case continued through the court system.
