GILBERT, Ariz. — Nearly five years after Nick Cordova, a 40-year-old father of two, was fatally shot at his business, Gilbert Air, his family continues to seek justice. Despite surveillance video capturing an individual who police believe may be a suspect, no arrests have been made. In an effort to rejuvenate the stalled investigation, Cordova’s family has intensified their campaigns for leads, holding a press event at the Phoenix Police Department’s headquarters.
The family has launched a social media initiative titled “Noise for Nick,” with Cordova’s widow, Alysha, spearheading the push through TikTok videos and interviews on various online platforms. She expressed her family’s emotional turmoil since the incident, emphasizing the profound impact of her husband’s absence. “He was the glue that held us all together and without the glue, we’re all just falling apart,” Alysha Cordova explained, conveying the irreplaceable loss they endure.
The fatal incident occurred on May 27, 2020, during a video call between Nick and his children, then aged 5 and 7. According to Alysha, her children witnessed parts of the attack which appeared muffled over the call. The chilling experience unfolded as she spoke to a 911 operator, her children overhearing her distress as she relayed glimpses of the struggle, including a possible sighting of a firearm.
When Gilbert police arrived at the scene, they found Nick Cordova deceased from gunshot wounds. The case has since seen few developments, with police identifying a potential second person of interest but failing to make any arrests. “We recognize it’s been a long and painful five years for Nick’s family as we’ve steadily combed through every lead looking for answers,” Gilbert Police Commander Joe Rodriquez stated. He reassured the public and the Cordova family of their commitment to resolving the case and achieving justice.
Frustration with the pace of the investigation has been voiced by Alysha Cordova, who feels that her husband’s case has not received the attention it merits. She has criticized the Gilbert police for what she perceives as insufficient action. Despite the police holding onto surveillance footage that might clarify the events inside Gilbert Air on the day of the murder, the video has not been made public.
The community is encouraged to contribute any information they might have by contacting Silent Witness at 480-948-6377. An anonymity guarantee and a reward of $20,000 are incentives for those who might help lead to an arrest. Alysha Cordova believes that apprehending the responsible individuals could provide a semblance of closure. “It’s not gonna make it OK, but I think it would bring a little bit of closure and peace to our family just knowing that the men that took him from us are being held accountable and are behind bars where they should be,” she said.
As the investigation continues, the Cordova family remains hopeful that renewed interest and public assistance will bring about the long-awaited justice for Nick, restoring a measure of peace to their lives irrevocably altered by his untimely death.
