D.C. Woman Killed in Temple Hills Park Parking Lot

Juanita Frazier was found shot in an Oxon Run Community Park parking lot.

TEMPLE HILLS, Md. — Police are searching for a suspect after 38-year-old Juanita Frazier of Washington, D.C., was found shot and killed Tuesday night at Oxon Run Community Park in Prince George’s County.

The case centers on a late-night discovery in a park parking lot and remains unsolved. Prince George’s County police said Frazier, a mother of three, died at the scene despite efforts by first responders. Detectives have not released a motive, a suspect description or details about what led to the shooting.

The first call came at about 10:15 p.m. April 28, when officers with Maryland-National Capital Park Police and Prince George’s County police responded to the park for an unresponsive woman. They found Frazier in the parking lot with gunshot wounds. Police later identified her publicly and said the county homicide unit was handling the investigation. Assistant Chief Gregory Ford said detectives were “actively interviewing people” and looking for any evidence that could help explain what happened.

Investigators have said little about Frazier’s final hours. They have not said whether she arrived alone, whether anyone heard gunfire or whether the shooter left on foot or in a vehicle. Police also have not said whether the shooting appeared targeted or random. The known timeline begins with the 911 report and the response by park police and county officers. Frazier was pronounced dead in the same lot where she was found. Detectives are asking for information tied to case number 26-0022511.

People who knew Frazier described her as warm and upbeat. Dewayne Morris, who said he grew up with her, said the killing was hard to accept because she was a kind person who was often smiling. “It’s crazy that someone would even want to hurt her,” Morris said. A community member near the park said the loss should be seen first as a family tragedy, noting that someone had lost a loved one. Police have not released any statement from Frazier’s family.

The shooting also raised questions about safety at the park after dark. Police said Oxon Run Community Park was closed when officers responded. Ford said park police increased patrols after the killing and would keep checking the area. He said officers often try to conduct hourly checks after serious incidents. Authorities have not said whether lighting, cameras or prior calls at the park are part of the review. No public record released so far has linked this case to any earlier crime at the park.

The next steps are investigative and procedural. Detectives will have to identify a suspect, determine whether the evidence supports charges and present the case for prosecution if an arrest is made. Police are offering up to $25,000 for information that leads to an arrest and indictment. The reward signals that investigators are still seeking outside information, including tips from people who may have seen cars, people or activity near the park around the time Frazier was killed.

For now, the case remains an open homicide with no arrest announced. Police say the investigation is active, and the next major update would be the release of a suspect name, an arrest or new details about the motive.
