CINCINNATI, Ohio – A Cincinnati police officer who was injured while attempting to stop a robbery suspect has recently spoken out about the incident for the first time. Officer Benjamin Williamson suffered a broken kneecap as a result of the attack, but he has expressed that the pain is gradually improving.
The incident occurred on January 28, when Williamson was unexpectedly injured while on duty. The suspect, identified as Antoine Walker, allegedly became aggressive during an arrest after attempting to steal a cash register from a local restaurant in Clifton. Williamson encountered Walker at a nearby gas station, where the altercation took place, leading to the officer’s injuries.
Despite the intense pain he experienced when injured, Williamson was not alone during the altercation. His partner, Sam Myers, was present to help detain Walker while they awaited paramedics. It was revealed that Myers even accompanied Williamson to the hospital to provide support in the immediate aftermath of the incident.
The recovery process has been challenging for Williamson, but he has expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support he has received. Messages and phone calls from colleagues and members of the department have served as a source of encouragement for the officer. After taking some time off to recuperate, Williamson has now returned to work, eager to resume his duties.
As for the suspect, Antoine Walker, he currently remains in custody, facing charges of felonious assault, robbery, and additional offenses. The incident serves as a sobering reminder of the risks that law enforcement officers face while carrying out their duties to protect the community.
