Tiruppur, India — A tragic firecracker factory explosion in the southern city of Tiruppur has claimed the lives of four individuals, including a six-year-old girl named Niranjana, officials confirmed on Wednesday. Niranjana, who lived nearby, suffered fatal injuries from flying debris during Tuesday’s blast and later succumbed to her injuries at the Government Medical College in Coimbatore. This recent death has intensified scrutiny on the operations leading to the disaster.
Law enforcement authorities arrested 42-year-old Saravanakumar and his brother-in-law, 44-year-old Karthikeyan, on charges related to the illegal production of fireworks in Karthikeyan’s residence where the explosion originated. The police action revealed that Saravanakumar had allowed his license to lapse in December of the previous year and was reportedly fulfilling orders for local temple festivities when the accident happened.

On the day of the blast, besides Niranjana, the explosion claimed the lives of two other individuals. A man in his mid-thirties and a nine-month-old girl died at the scene, whose identities are now known, with the later confirmation of Vijaya, 45, another worker involved in the production process.
