Woman Shot In Chest Dies In Miami-Dade Neighborhood

The woman was found wounded Tuesday afternoon near Northwest 22 Avenue and 90 Street.

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Detectives were investigating after a woman shot in the chest Tuesday in northwest Miami-Dade died at Jackson Memorial Hospital, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting unfolded in West Little River, a neighborhood north of Miami, and drew deputies, fire rescue crews and crime scene investigators to Northwest 22 Avenue and 90 Street. Authorities said the woman was found bleeding shortly after 1:35 p.m. and taken to Ryder Trauma Center.

Deputies detained two people, a man and a woman, while investigators worked at the scene. Officials did not release their names or describe their connection to the case. The sheriff’s office also had not identified the woman who died or said whether detectives had recovered a gun.

Northwest 90 Street was closed between Northwest 22 Avenue and Northwest 21 Avenue as investigators searched the area. Crime scene tape covered part of the block, and an evidence marker was visible near a plastic chair. Deputies stood near the scene while residents watched from nearby homes and sidewalks.

People who live in the area said crime had been a concern before the shooting. Some residents told Local 10 News that neighbors had complained about activity on the corner and wanted deputies to take stronger action. Officials did not confirm whether those complaints were part of the investigation.

The woman’s death shifted the case from a shooting investigation to a fatal shooting investigation. Detectives were expected to review witness accounts, physical evidence and any available video from homes or businesses near the intersection.

No court records or formal charges had been announced by Wednesday. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remained active.
