Deputies said Franklin Davis set a vehicle on fire after an argument with a woman.
OAKLAND PARK, Fla. — An 84-year-old Broward County man was denied bond Monday after deputies accused him of setting fire to a car with a woman inside following an argument at an Oakland Park convenience store.
Franklin Davis appeared in court after Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies said he poured a flammable liquid and ignited the vehicle Friday in the parking lot of a 7-Eleven at 3100 NW 9th Ave. The woman suffered third-degree burns to her left leg, deputies said.
Davis and the woman had recently ended a 42-year relationship before the confrontation, according to deputies. Investigators said the pair argued in Oakland Park before the fire. Deputies also said Davis was under the influence of alcohol at the time.
The fire injured both people, deputies said. The woman was burned on her leg, while Davis suffered burns to his hands and face. His court appearance Monday showed him using a wheelchair as he faced a judge on felony charges tied to the incident.
Davis faces charges of premeditated attempted murder, arson causing bodily harm and criminal attempt, solicitation and conspiracy to commit a capital felony. A judge denied him bond, and jail records listed him in custody at the Broward County Main Jail in Fort Lauderdale.
The case now moves through Broward County court as prosecutors weigh the evidence gathered by deputies. Authorities have not released the woman’s name or further details about her condition. The next public court step was not immediately listed in the report.
