Woman Slashed With Scalpel On Mott Haven Subway Train

Police said one person was in custody after the late-night attack.

NEW YORK — A 32-year-old woman was slashed several times Tuesday night on a northbound 6 train at the East 149th Street station in Mott Haven, police said.

Officers were called to the station at about 11:30 p.m. and found the woman with cuts to her left arm, chest and lower back. Police said the weapon was a scalpel. One person was taken into custody after the attack.

The woman was brought to a local hospital and is expected to recover, according to police. Authorities did not immediately release her name or the name of the person in custody.

Police did not say what led to the slashing or whether the woman and the person in custody knew each other. No charges had been announced in the first public report on the case.

The attack happened inside one of the Bronx’s busiest transit corridors, near the 6 train stop at East 149th Street in Mott Haven. Investigators continued reviewing the incident Wednesday as they worked to confirm the sequence of events.

Officials said the case remained active. The woman’s recovery and the filing of any charges were the next key steps.
