Woman killed, man critically injured in Houston shooting

Police said the case is being investigated as an attempted murder-suicide.

HOUSTON, Texas — Houston police are investigating a shooting near South Braeswood Boulevard and South Gessner Road that left a woman dead and a man critically injured, authorities said.

The shooting happened in southwest Houston, where officers found two people wounded. Police said the woman died and the man was taken to a hospital in critical condition. Investigators described the case as an attempted murder-suicide, but officials had not released the names of either person.

Houston police said officers responded to the scene near the busy southwest Houston intersection after reports of gunfire. The woman was pronounced dead, and emergency crews transported the wounded man for treatment. No additional suspect information was released, and police said there was no clear public threat reported after officers arrived.

Investigators were working to determine what happened before the gunfire. Officials had not said whether the two people knew each other, what led to the shooting or whether any witnesses saw the full encounter. Police also had not released ages for the woman or the man.

The area around Braeswood and Gessner includes apartment complexes, shopping centers and major traffic routes through southwest Houston. Detectives were expected to review evidence from the scene, including possible surveillance video from nearby businesses or homes.

The Houston Police Department’s homicide division is handling the investigation. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences is expected to confirm the woman’s identity and cause of death after family notification.
