Homicide detectives are searching for suspects after a woman was killed in her vehicle.
ATLANTA, Ga. — Homicide detectives are investigating the fatal shooting of a woman found inside a car early Wednesday in southeast Atlanta, where residents reported hearing multiple gunshots just before 1:30 a.m.
The victim, identified by police as a 36-year-old woman, was discovered inside a vehicle stopped along Springside Place SE near Browns Mill Road. Authorities said she suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to investigators, officers responded to calls about gunfire in the neighborhood and arrived to find the car positioned in the roadway. The circumstances leading up to the shooting were not immediately clear, and detectives have not said how long the vehicle had been there before police arrived.
Police indicated the woman did not appear to have ties to the immediate area, adding another layer of uncertainty to the case. Her identity has not been released publicly, and officials said they are working to notify her family.
Neighbors described being awakened by the sound of gunfire. One resident said they heard several shots ring out in quick succession, followed by what sounded like a vehicle moving through the area. Investigators have not confirmed whether another car was involved.
