Woman Dies After Shooting At Miramar Apartment Complex

Police said a man who lived in the apartment was cooperating with detectives.

MIRAMAR, Fla. — A woman died Friday after Miramar police found her shot inside an apartment where officers had been called for a reported robbery shortly after 2 a.m., police said.

The shooting brought a heavy police response to 10750 North Preserve Way, where investigators placed tape around part of the apartment complex and worked through the morning. Police said the woman was taken to a hospital after officers found her with a gunshot wound, but she later died.

Miramar Police spokesperson Janice McIntosh said officers found a man inside the apartment with the woman. “They are actually known to each other and we are just trying to piece, put together what is happening and our detectives are still on scene,” McIntosh said. Police said the man lived at the apartment and was cooperating with investigators.

Authorities said the man is believed to have shot the woman, but police had not announced charges or released the woman’s name Friday. Investigators also had not explained what led to the robbery report or whether anything was taken from the apartment. Police said there was no threat to nearby residents or the public.

The investigation centered on a gated residential area in Miramar, where neighbors woke to police vehicles and crime scene tape. One neighbor said he was surprised by the violence in the community. “It’s a big concern, you know, it’s serious,” the neighbor said.

Detectives remained at the complex Friday as they reviewed evidence, interviewed the man and worked to confirm the events before the shooting. Police said more information would be released as the investigation continues.
