Woman Dead After Gun Struggle With Roommate, Police Say

Police said a morning argument turned deadly inside a northwest Las Vegas residence.

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Homicide detectives investigated a fatal shooting Saturday after police said two roommates struggled over a gun inside a residence near Lake Mead and Decatur boulevards.

The shooting was reported about 9:45 a.m. in the 1900 block of Plumas Court. Police said the call came from a man who reported that his roommate had been shot. Officers found a woman in her mid-50s wounded inside the home.

Lt. Robert Price said the woman died at the scene. He said investigators believe the shooting followed a verbal argument between the roommates, though police had not said what the argument was about.

Price said someone produced a firearm during the dispute, leading to a struggle between the man and woman. The gun went off during that struggle, striking the woman, police said. The man, described as being in his mid-40s, was detained for questioning.

No arrest or charge had been announced in the first police update. Detectives were expected to review statements, physical evidence and the handling of the firearm before deciding the next step in the case.

The woman’s identity had not been released Saturday. The investigation remained active in the residential area near North Decatur and West Lake Mead boulevards, where officers responded after the emergency call.
