Police have described the case as possibly domestic-related but have not identified the dead, announced an arrest or explained what led to the gunfire.
MIAMI — Detectives continued investigating a deadly shooting at a Little Havana home Sunday as key questions remained about what led to the violence, the relationships among those involved and whether anyone had been arrested.
Two adults, a man and a woman, were killed after officers responded at about 6:30 a.m. Saturday to a home near Northwest 17th Avenue and Third Street. A 32-year-old man who also suffered gunshot wounds was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition. A 13-year-old was hospitalized in stable condition with minor lacerations to the head.
Miami police have said the circumstances appeared to be domestic-related, but investigators have not publicly described the relationships among the four people or disclosed what they believe happened before the shooting. The names of the two people who died and the injured man and teenager had not been released in the public reports reviewed Sunday.
The lack of additional information left several parts of the case unresolved. Authorities had not said where each person was inside or around the home when officers arrived, who fired the shots or whether more than one firearm was involved. Police also had not announced a motive, and the description of the case as possibly domestic-related remained preliminary.
News crews at the scene recorded officers handcuffing a man and placing him in a patrol car as detectives worked around the home. Officials had not publicly said whether that person was a suspect, witness or otherwise connected to the shooting. Later reports said no arrest had been announced, underscoring the distinction between a person being detained during an investigation and someone being formally arrested in a criminal case.
Investigators spent Saturday processing the property and the surrounding area as officers restricted access with crime scene tape. Police activity was concentrated at a corner house, where detectives searched for evidence that could help establish the sequence of events. Officials had not disclosed what evidence was recovered.
The teenager’s injuries were separate from the gunshot wounds suffered by the three adults. Miami Fire Rescue said the teen had a laceration caused by being struck in some manner and was not cut with a knife. Authorities did not elaborate on what caused the injury or how it related to the shooting.
The surviving adult initially remained in critical condition, while the teenager was listed in stable condition. Authorities had not publicly announced a later change in either patient’s condition as of Sunday morning.
Police continued investigating the deaths and had not publicly identified a person responsible for the gunfire. Further information, including the victims’ identities and any potential arrests or charges, remained pending as detectives worked to determine how the shooting unfolded.
