New Delhi, India: The soaring temperatures across north India have led to a tragic loss of life, with reports of casualties including six Home Guards on election duty in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh. The scorching heat has also been linked to multiple deaths in Rajasthan, with five confirmed fatalities so far.
RB Kamal, Principal of Mirzapur Medical College, revealed that among the 23 Home Guards hospitalized, six have unfortunately passed away. All the victims presented with various health issues such as high blood pressure, heart problems, and other ailments. Currently, two individuals remain in critical condition.
The rising mercury levels in north India have also been associated with unconfirmed reports of homeless individuals losing their lives due to the extreme heat. The situation has become so dire that the Rajasthan High Court intervened, urging the government to declare the heat wave as a national emergency.
In response to the crisis, the court directed the state government to compensate the families of the victims and implement measures to provide relief to the citizens. These measures include watering roads, creating shaded areas, and distributing hydration solutions to combat dehydration.
Tragically, the heat wave has claimed lives across different regions in Rajasthan, with reports of deaths in Kota, Alwar, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Jalore, and Bundi. The circumstances surrounding these deaths suggest that most of the deceased succumbed to the extreme heat exposure.
Among the casualties is a Border Security Force personnel, although the BSF has yet to confirm whether the death was related to the heat wave. The situation remains critical as authorities work to address the impact of the unprecedented heat wave on vulnerable populations.
