Ten injured after gas leak explosion at Regina’s Luiggi’s Pasta House

Regina, Saskatchewan – Authorities are investigating an explosion at Luiggi’s Pasta House on Albert Street North in Regina, Saskatchewan. The explosion blew out the south wall, collapsed the roof, and buried the front end of an SUV in cinder blocks and rubble. Firefighters evacuated the building, which contained six businesses, and managed to extinguish a fire that spread to the building’s attic.

The cause of the explosion is still under investigation, although the restaurant posted on social media that it was due to a gas leak. Regina Fire Department, SaskEnergy, and Regina police are working together to determine the cause of the explosion. Three people suffered minor injuries, but the restaurant’s staff all made it out safely.

Fire Chief Layne Jackson stated that investigators are still confirming the details and circumstances of the explosion. They are working to eliminate all potential causes and estimate that about 20 firefighters were at the scene. Luiggi’s Pasta House has declined to do interviews at this time.

A worker at a nearby store described the explosion as intense, shaking their windows and leading them to believe a vehicle had rammed into their building. The City of Regina, which manages media inquiries for the fire service, has said that more information will be provided when the investigation is complete.

The aftermath of the explosion has caused significant damage to the restaurant, and authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the cause. The full extent of the damage and the impact on neighboring businesses is yet to be determined.
