Teenage girl killed in intentional apartment complex fire in Palisade

Palisade, Colorado – Authorities confirmed on Wednesday that the fatal apartment complex explosion and fire that took the life of a teenage girl in Palisade was intentionally set. The tragic incident resulted in the death of 18-year-old Kloey Weythman, while the other residents of the six-unit complex were left displaced.

Law enforcement officials revealed that the fire was believed to have been started with the use of an accelerant, with the source being traced back to apartment one, which was rented by 29-year-old Andrew Alderman. Police began their search for Alderman after discovering videos on his social media account that led them to suspect his involvement in the fire.

The explosion that occurred as a result of the accelerant vapors within the apartment prompted further investigation to determine the specific chemical accelerant used. Subsequently, authorities were able to track Alderman’s location to an area outside Leadville, where they tragically found that he had taken his own life.

The fire was first reported early Friday morning, with fire crews responding promptly to the scene. Despite efforts to contain the fire, the search for a suspect continued. Eventually, Lake County sheriff’s deputies located Alderman’s car near Leadville, leading to the discovery of his body shortly after.

As the investigation continues, authorities have provided temporary housing for all displaced residents and have initiated efforts to support the victims of the fire. The community of Palisade, in partnership with the American Red Cross, has come together to collect gift cards and monetary donations for those affected.

Various fire departments, law enforcement agencies, and emergency responders collaborated to manage the aftermath of the tragic incident. The Clifton Fire Protection District, Grand Junction Fire Department, Palisade Police Department, Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, DeBeque Marshal’s Office, and the Colorado State Patrol all played vital roles in responding to the emergency.
