Possible Explosive Device Found in Selma Canal Leads to Investigation by Fresno County Sheriff’s Office

Selma, California – An investigation has been launched by the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office after a potential explosive device was found in a canal in Selma. Authorities were alerted to the situation after receiving a call from a bystander who witnessed an explosion and spotted a suspicious object floating in the water.

Upon arriving at the scene near E. Mountain View and S. Temperance Avenues, deputies secured the area and called in their Eagle One helicopter to locate the device. The object was eventually located wedged against a trash grate in the canal. In the interest of public safety, surrounding roads were closed off to prevent any potential harm to motorists.

The Explosive Ordinance Disposal Team, also known as the Bomb Squad, was then called in to safely retrieve and disarm the device. Fortunately, no additional devices were found in the area, and authorities confirmed that there were no reports of injuries or damage resulting from the initial explosion.
