Teenage Girl Charged as Adult in Mother’s Murder and Stepfather’s Shooting Incident

RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. – In a tragic incident in Rankin County, a 14-year-old girl is facing adult charges of murder and attempted murder for a shooting that resulted in the death of her mother and injuries to her stepfather. Carly Madison Gregg appeared in juvenile court and was certified as an adult by a judge, with an initial appearance scheduled in county court.

The investigation began after deputies responded to a call about a shooting in Brandon’s Farmington Station subdivision. Upon arrival, they found the girl’s stepfather with a gunshot wound to the shoulder. He reported discovering his wife, Ashley Smylie, deceased from a gunshot wound inside the house, with the teenager armed with a pistol.
