Police found the woman critically wounded inside a home on North Monitor Avenue, and detectives are investigating what led to the shooting.
CHICAGO — An 18-year-old woman died after she was found shot inside a Northwest Side home Wednesday night, Chicago police said.
Officers responded about 8:53 p.m. Oct. 14 to the 2700 block of North Monitor Avenue, where they found the woman inside a residence with a gunshot wound to the head. She was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in critical condition and later pronounced dead, according to police.
Authorities had not released the woman’s identity as of Thursday. Police also had not disclosed what happened before the shooting or whether investigators had identified anyone believed to be involved.
The shooting occurred in the Belmont Cragin area on Chicago’s Northwest Side. Police remained at the residence after the woman was taken to the hospital as detectives worked to gather evidence and determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Police have not said whether the woman lived at the residence or explained why she was there. Authorities also have not publicly described how officers were alerted to the shooting beyond saying they responded to the home Wednesday night.
No arrest had been announced, and investigators had not released information about a possible motive. Police also had not said whether they were looking for a specific person in connection with the woman’s death.
The available information remained limited Thursday, with authorities describing the case as an active investigation. The lack of publicly released details left several basic questions unanswered, including what happened inside the residence and whether anyone else was present when the woman was wounded.
Area Five detectives are investigating. Police had not announced additional developments in the case or released further details about the circumstances of the shooting.
