Suburban Detroit Businessman Charged with Involuntary Manslaughter After Fatal Explosion

Mount Clemens, Michigan – A suburban Detroit businessman faced charges of involuntary manslaughter in connection with a fatal explosion at a building he owned, resulting in the death of another man struck by a nitrous oxide canister.

Noor Noel Kestou, 31, of Commerce Township, was accused of involvement in the March 4 explosion that tragically claimed the life of 19-year-old Turner Lee Salter. Kestou’s bond was set at $500,000 cash/surety only, and a probable cause hearing was scheduled for May 7 in Clinton Township District Court.

The explosion occurred at a site housing ‘Goo,’ a distributor for the vaping industry, where over 100,000 vape pens were stored. Authorities revealed that a truckload of butane canisters had been delivered shortly before the blast, sending canisters flying up to 2 miles away, with a significant portion still present at the time of the fire.

In September 2022, ‘Goo’ obtained a township permit to operate within the 26,700-square-foot building as a retail space for vape products, as confirmed by Clinton Township’s Building Department. Kestou’s attorney, James Thomas, declined to comment on the matter, while authorities planned a news conference for further details on the case.
