Southwest Atlanta Community Mourns After Fatal Shooting and Dog Theft

ATLANTA – The family of 44-year-old Samuel “JR” Harris is mourning after he was fatally shot and his beloved pitbull, Tequila, was stolen. The tragic incident occurred while they were out walking on Mitchell Street in southwest Atlanta when a group of individuals attacked them, resulting in JR’s death and the theft of Tequila.

Mary Boykins, JR’s mother, received the devastating news when a police officer knocked on her door the following morning. She expressed disbelief and shock, stating, “I couldn’t believe it… like I’m going to wake up and it’s a dream.”

The family believes that JR was targeted, prompting them to return to the crime scene to distribute flyers in the neighborhood and speak with reporters. They are determined to seek justice and find those responsible for the senseless act.

In response to a $2,000 reward offered by the police for information leading to an arrest, the family has raised an additional $5,000 in their pursuit of justice. JR’s wife, Lea Harris, expressed the family’s anguish and pleaded for anyone with information to come forward, stating, “All I hear is that laugh, that laugh is definitely going to be missed… We really are here asking anybody who can tell us anything.”

The family’s priority is not only to seek justice for JR, but also to locate Tequila. Liz Robinson, JR’s sister, made a heartfelt plea for the safe return of the stolen dog, expressing gratitude for any assistance in reuniting Tequila with the family.

Additionally, police have urged the public to submit tips anonymously through the Crime Stoppers Atlanta tip line, online, or via text, assuring that individuals can remain anonymous and still be eligible for the reward.

The community’s support and cooperation are crucial in bringing closure to the family and ensuring that justice is served for JR and the safe return of Tequila.
