DALLAS, TX – In a startling incident early Monday morning, a man accused of shooting his romantic partner managed to slip out of Dallas Police Headquarters, triggering an extensive search operation. The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Josue Aguilar Murillo, was arrested late Sunday following a domestic dispute that escalated into gunfire in Pleasant Grove.
The altercation, which neighbors reported to authorities, left Murillo’s roommate with gunshot wounds to the hip and calf. The victim, who was taken to the hospital, later informed detectives that he and Murillo were in a romantic relationship, adding a personal element to the ongoing investigation.
After being taken into custody, Murillo was placed in an interview room at the police station. However, due to a security oversight, the room was left unlocked, allowing Murillo to walk out the front door undetected. Surveillance footage confirmed his casual exit from the facility.
Murillo remained at large for nearly four hours before officers spotted him near the scene of the original shooting, approximately nine miles from the police headquarters. His identity was verified by the blood-stained shoes he still wore and the handcuff marks on his wrists.
This escape has raised significant concerns about security practices at the police headquarters. Authorities have acknowledged the lapse and are reviewing procedures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Murillo is now back in custody at the Dallas County Jail, facing charges of aggravated assault and escape. An immigration hold further complicates his legal challenges.
The circumstances of Murillo’s escape, including whether he received assistance or traveled on foot from the police station to the area near the initial crime scene, remain under investigation. This incident has highlighted the need for tightened security measures to ensure that suspects remain securely in custody.
