Roseville Man Accused in Roadside Killing of Trucking Partner

Police say GPS data, surveillance video and a company report helped identify the suspect.

LONDONDERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A California truck driver remained in custody after investigators said his co-driver was found dead May 23 under a blanket along River Road in Dauphin County.

The case links a Pennsylvania homicide scene, a Fair Oaks trucking company and a Miami arrest. Authorities identified the victim as Oleksandr Hurianov and charged Ilia Romanchenko, 25, of Roseville, after investigators traced the truck’s route and reviewed video from a Delaware County gas station.

Police said Hurianov’s body was discovered around 10 a.m. along the 1800 block of River Road in Londonderry Township, about 15 miles southeast of Harrisburg. First responders found signs of multiple stab wounds and major head trauma. Hurianov was declared dead at the scene.

Investigators said Hurianov and Romanchenko drove together for New Route Inc., a trucking company based in Fair Oaks. After Hurianov was reported missing, police contacted the company and reviewed information tied to the truck. The truck’s GPS showed a stop near the area where Hurianov was found, then a trip to Ridley Park in Delaware County.

Authorities said Romanchenko told the company’s owner that he and Hurianov had fought. He also told the owner where the truck had been parked, according to charging documents described by investigators. Police later found the truck and reported blood inside the cab.

Video from a nearby Royal Farms showed Romanchenko outside the truck and inside the store, authorities said. Investigators said the footage showed injuries on his hands and showed him discarding a plastic bag. Police have not publicly said what was inside the bag.

Authorities said Romanchenko boarded a flight from Philadelphia to Miami early May 24. Miami-Dade deputies arrested him after he arrived in Florida on an out-of-state warrant. Prosecutors in Dauphin County said they believed he may have been trying to leave the country.

Romanchenko is awaiting extradition to Pennsylvania. He faces charges that include criminal homicide, abuse of a corpse, possession of an instrument of crime and tampering with evidence. The next major court step listed in records is a June 10 extradition hearing in Miami-Dade County Court.

The investigation remains active as Pennsylvania authorities await final medical findings and continue reviewing records, video and the truck’s movements before and after the stop near River Road.
