Rakim Chaney Sets School Record with 41 Points in Auburn’s Home Win, Tops 1,000-Point Mark

Rockford, Illinois – Rockford Auburn senior Rakim Chaney made history by scoring 41 points in Auburn’s home win against Hononegah Saturday night, setting a school record. This outstanding performance also propelled Chaney over the 1,000-point mark for his career. The Castle witnessed a remarkable finale to Chaney’s home game career.

Other boys and girls’ basketball results from Saturday were also compiled by the “Overtime” team of Scott Leber and Regan Holgate. In NIC-10 boys scores, Auburn defeated Hononegah 77-48 with Chaney’s record-breaking performance, while Guilford overcame Lindblom with a score of 72-65, with Johnson scoring 17 points. Freeport also clinched a victory against Belvidere North with a 49-43 win, putting them at 13-4 in conference play. Boylan secured a 54-50 win over Rockford East, with Hocking scoring 15 points for the Titans and Leach scoring 21 for East.

In other boys scores, Neuqua Valley defeated Pecatonica 79-59, South Beloit won against Christian Liberty with a score of 58-37, Forreston secured a 52-46 win over Durand, and Sycamore finished with a 54-44 victory over Somonauk.

The girls’ 1A regional scores were also notable, with Dakota beating Durand 44-25, Lena-Winslow overcoming South Beloit with a score of 53-28, Alden-Hebron clinching a 55-18 victory over Hiawatha, and River Ridge/Scales dominating West Carroll with a 58-21 win.

The girls’ 2A regional scores featured Rockford Christian prevailing over North Boone 58-25, Winnebago securing a 66-34 win against Richmond-Burton, Johnsburg winning 42-37 against Genoa-Kingston, Marengo defeating Rosary with a score of 41-34, and Erie Prophetstown finishing with a 51-19 victory over Oregon.

Rochelle secured a 52-33 win over Plano in the girls’ 3A regional scores, while Jacobs triumphed over McHenry with a score of 40-23 in the girls’ 4A regional scores.
