Pregnant Atlanta mother dies after shooting on I-75

Police said the 34-year-old may have been wounded before her car stopped near the airport corridor.

ATLANTA, Ga. — A 34-year-old pregnant mother of two died after she was found shot inside her vehicle during Tuesday evening traffic on Interstate 75 near the Atlanta airport, and investigators said they are still trying to determine where the gunfire happened.

Atlanta police said officers responded about 6:15 p.m. Tuesday to a report of a person shot along the northbound lanes of I-75 near North Central Avenue SW. The woman, later identified as Bianca Huntley, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition, where she later died. The Fulton County Medical Examiner ruled her death a homicide and said she suffered a gunshot wound involving her left arm and torso.

Authorities have not said what led to the shooting, whether Huntley was targeted, or who may have been involved. Investigators said early evidence suggests she may have been injured at a different location before her vehicle came to a stop on the interstate. That detail has added another layer of uncertainty to the case, leaving detectives to piece together where the shooting began and how Huntley ended up on one of the city’s busiest highway corridors during rush hour.

Family members said Huntley was driving home from work when she was shot. Her mother, Gloria Allen, remembered her as a devoted parent and a rising professional whose life was cut short without warning. “You’re talking about a light, a shining light that got snuffed out,” Allen said in comments reported by local media. Allen said her daughter had moved to Atlanta from North Carolina about nine years ago and recently earned a promotion while working as a quality manager.

Huntley leaves behind two daughters, ages 14 and 5, according to her family. Her mother said Huntley had been building a life centered on work and family and was preparing for the future when she was killed. Allen also said she believes her daughter was targeted, though police have not publicly confirmed a motive or announced any arrests. Investigators have not released information about a suspect vehicle, possible witnesses, or whether surveillance footage has helped narrow the timeline.

The case remains under investigation as police continue reviewing evidence from the highway scene and any locations tied to Huntley’s final movements. Officials have not announced charges or a timetable for further updates. For now, the central questions remain unanswered: where Huntley was first shot, who pulled the trigger, and why.

As of Friday, police had released Huntley’s identity and confirmed the homicide ruling, but they had not named a suspect. The next milestone in the case is expected to be a police update or any court filings tied to an arrest.
