Authorities were called to a residence after reports of a possible home invasion on Thursday evening, resulting in the tragic deaths of Miles Herrington, 97, and his wife, Ina Herrington, 94, both found with multiple injuries. Police Chief Deborah Naylor Young addressed the media during a press conference on Friday, informing that the department’s violent crime unit had been activated to gather evidence and gather more information.

The bodies of the victims have been sent for autopsies to facilitate the ongoing investigation, Young mentioned. Expressing condolences and sympathies to the families affected by the violent act, she assured the community that the department is fully committed to working tirelessly to solve the case and bring those responsible to justice.

Young emphasized that this incident appears to be isolated, reassuring the public that there is no active threat targeting individuals in the community. Due to the sensitivity of the investigation, limited information can be disclosed at this time, but updates will be issued as more details become available.

The investigation remains a top priority for the Meridian Police Department, with investigators dedicated to unraveling the circumstances surrounding the tragic event. Young urged anyone with knowledge or tips related to the case to reach out to the authorities promptly.

As the investigation continues, the community is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police department. The pursuit of justice for the victims remains paramount, and the department is determined to bring closure to this devastating incident.
