This incident unfolded on March 29, 2024, during a community visit to Nsunensa, where Oppong and her team aimed to discuss the achievements of the NPP government and ongoing development projects, such as the rehabilitation of the Nsunensa Junction–Nsunensa–Meta Road.
As tensions escalated during the campaign event, Oppong’s team revealed alleged misinformation about the funding of the road project, implicating the incumbent MP and a contractor with political affiliations. The NPP communications team accused the MP of misleading the public by claiming personal funding for projects supported by the government. This revelation reportedly triggered a violent response from NDC members, who blocked the team’s exit using a tipper truck belonging to the road contractor and subjected them to verbal abuse and intimidation, particularly targeting Oppong.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos as the NPP team faced aggression from NDC members, with the incumbent MP allegedly leading the attack. The NPP Communications Directorate swiftly issued a statement condemning the violence and stressing the importance of political accountability. During the campaign visit, Mrs. Oppong took the opportunity to highlight the achievements of the NPP government under the leadership of HE. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Details about ongoing developmental projects in the constituency were shared, including the 12km Nsunensa Jn. – Nsunensa – Meta Road being rehabilitated by the Ministry of Roads and Highways through the Department of Feeder Roads under the Road Fund.
