NIA Makes Arrest in London High Commission Attack Case, Unveils Larger Conspiracy

NEW DELHI, India – The National Investigation Agency (NIA) made a significant breakthrough on Thursday by apprehending an individual linked to the violent attack on the High Commission of India in London, as well as involvement in illegal activities during subsequent protests in March 2023. The arrest of Inderpal Singh Gaba, a resident of Hounslow, United Kingdom, in Delhi marked a crucial development in the ongoing investigation.

NIA’s findings suggest that the incidents in London from March 19 to March 22, 2023, were part of a larger conspiracy aimed at launching violent assaults on Indian missions and officials. The attacks were believed to be in response to actions taken by the Punjab police against pro-Khalistani separatist Amritpal Singh on March 18, 2023. Authorities have been diligent in their pursuit of individuals involved in these coordinated attacks, conducting searches and follow-up investigations to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Gurcharan Singh of the Dal Khalsa, along with Avtar Singh Khanda of the Khalistan Liberation Force and Jasvir Singh, were identified as key figures orchestrating the attack on the High Commission in London. The group’s actions, which included criminal trespass, vandalizing property, and causing harm to officials, were met with swift investigative actions by the NIA. Further efforts to gather evidence and information, including crowdsourcing, were conducted to identify and apprehend all parties involved in the conspiracy, both within the U.K. and abroad.

In August of the previous year, the NIA had conducted raids at various locations linked to the March 19 attack in London, underscoring the agency’s commitment to unraveling the complex web of individuals and organizations behind the violent incident. Additionally, a team was dispatched to the U.K. for on-the-ground investigations and to collaborate with local authorities in gathering crucial evidence to build a solid case against the perpetrators.

The arrest of Inderpal Singh Gaba serves as a significant milestone in the NIA’s efforts to bring closure to the case and hold all those involved accountable for their actions. The agency’s relentless pursuit of justice underscores its commitment to safeguarding Indian missions and ensuring the safety of its officials both domestically and abroad. As the investigation continues to unfold, more insights and revelations are expected to shed light on the motivations behind the orchestrated attacks and the individuals responsible for perpetrating them.
