A 15-year-old girl from Karbi Anglong district in Assam, India, was the victim of a horrific crime, as she was raped, murdered, and dumped in a forest area by her 25-year-old neighbor, who worked as a driver. The incident took place on January 26 while the accused was taking her to school in his vehicle, and her body was recovered on Tuesday.
According to the police, the accused was arrested immediately after the recovery of the girl’s body, and he confessed to the crime. The superintendent of police (SP) of Karbi Anglong district, Sanjib Kumar Saikia, shared that they received a missing person’s complaint on January 27 and initiated a search operation. After four days, they found the body dumped in a forest area.
The SP stated that during the investigation, the victim’s parents informed the police that they had sent their daughter to a hostel along with the driver. However, the hostel authorities confirmed that the girl did not arrive that day. This led to the detention of the driver, who, during initial interrogation, admitted to killing the girl on the way to the hostel after raping her.
The accused now faces a case registered at Karbi Anglong’s Chowkihola Police Station, with charges including murder, raping a girl below the age of 16, and destroying evidence of a crime, among others. The police revealed that the body has been sent to a government hospital for the postmortem process, and the arrested person is undergoing further interrogations.
The family of the victim is seeking capital punishment for the accused, emphasizing their trust in him as they allowed their daughter to go with him in the hopes of providing her with an education. They are urging the judges to give the accused the maximum sentence as a means of setting an example. The accused is set to be presented before the court for further proceedings.
