Manhunt underway for suspect in fatal shooting on City Avenue in Montgomery County

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Law enforcement officials in Montgomery County are actively searching for a 39-year-old man suspected of a fatal shooting that occurred on Sunday night along City Avenue. The suspect, Tyreese Quinerley of North Philadelphia, is believed to have killed Jefferson Shackford, 39, leaving him to die on the sidewalk. Shackford, known to be unhoused and a resident of Northwest Philadelphia, was unfortunately pronounced dead after being transported to a nearby hospital.

District Attorney Kevin Steele confirmed that an arrest warrant has been issued for Quinerley in connection with Shackford’s death, with evidence suggesting Quinerley’s involvement in the incident. Allegedly, Quinerley made a 9-1-1 call to report nearly hitting Shackford with his green Chevrolet Express van before stopping to assist. Surveillance footage captured Quinerley exiting his van, brandishing a firearm, and firing shots before pulling Shackford out and leaving him on the sidewalk near St. Joseph’s University.

Eyewitnesses at the scene provided descriptions that matched Quinerley, supporting the investigation’s progress. Moreover, the recovered cell phone belonging to Quinerley revealed crucial information, including calls made prior to and after the incident. This evidence, along with recordings of the 9-1-1 call, has strengthened the case against Quinerley, who now faces charges of murder, weapon offenses, and other crimes.

Authorities are urging the public to be cautious as Quinerley is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on Quinerley’s whereabouts or his green Chevrolet Express van with license plate number MCR4673 is encouraged to contact Montgomery County Detectives or Lower Merion Township Police. The community’s cooperation is essential in ensuring Quinerley’s swift apprehension and bringing justice to Jefferson Shackford.
