A 25-year-old woman was arrested after the fatal Saturday evening shooting.
MILWAUKEE, Wis. — A 23-year-old Milwaukee man was shot and killed Saturday evening at Center Street Park during a large picnic-style gathering, authorities said.
The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called just after 6:45 p.m. May 30 to the park near 65th Street and Center Street. Milwaukee police officers and fire personnel also responded. The man was found dead with at least two gunshot wounds. No other injuries were reported.
A 25-year-old Milwaukee woman was arrested at the scene, the sheriff’s office said. Authorities said she had two guns in her possession. Investigators believe the woman and the man knew each other, though officials have not released more details about their relationship or what led to the shooting.
The shooting happened while a large social gathering was underway at the park. Local crews at the scene reported seeing squad cars from the sheriff’s office and Milwaukee Police Department, along with yellow crime scene tape near the park area. The sheriff’s office said the investigation remained active Saturday night.
Officials had not released the victim’s name as of Sunday. They also had not announced formal charges against the woman. Any charging decision would be reviewed by prosecutors after investigators send reports and evidence from the case.
The fatal shooting drew a large emergency response to a public park on a warm weekend evening. Authorities said no other people were hurt, and they did not report any wider threat after the arrest.
The case remained under investigation Sunday. The next major step is expected to be a charging review by the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.
