Man Charged with First-Degree Murder of Indian Doctoral Student in St. Louis

St. Louis, Missouri – A drug dealer in St. Louis has been charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action in the tragic death of a doctoral student from India who was attending Washington University. The suspect, Glenn Bailey, 46, is currently in custody without bond in connection with the incident that took place on February 27 in the Academy neighborhood of the city.

The victim, identified as Amarnath Ghosh by his friend, Bollywood actress Devoleena Bhattacharjee, was fatally shot at the intersection of Delmar Boulevard and Clarendon Avenue. The Washington University’s Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, Anna Gonzalez, confirmed his identity in a public statement.

According to the police’s probable cause statement, surveillance footage revealed Bailey’s vehicle following the victim just before the shooting occurred. Bailey later confessed to shooting the victim, along with two other accomplices who have not been named or apprehended. Investigators discovered cartridge cases from three different firearms at the crime scene.

Bailey admitted to authorities that he was involved in drug dealing in the area on the night of the incident. Notably, Bailey has a criminal history, including convictions for robbery, assault, unlawful use of a weapon, and a federal charge for illegal distribution of controlled substances.

In response to the tragic event, a GoFundMe campaign was launched to support Ghosh’s family. The fundraiser exceeded its goal, raising over $15,000, which will not only cover funeral expenses but also be used to honor Ghosh’s memory in some meaningful way. This may involve establishing a memorial or supporting a cause that Ghosh was passionate about.

The case continues to unfold as authorities work to bring justice for the victim and his loved ones. The St. Louis community mourns the loss of a promising young individual whose life was cut short in a senseless act of violence.
