Man Charged with Felonies in Connection with Deaths of FHP Trooper and Truck Driver in St. Lucie County

Fort Pierce, Florida – The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s office has arrested Michael Anthony Addison of Lauderdale by The Sea and charged him with multiple felonies in connection with the deaths of FHP Trooper Zachary Fink and the driver of a semi-truck. The tragic incident occurred when Addison attempted to flee from multiple law enforcement agencies trying to conduct a lawful traffic stop.

St. Lucie County Sheriff Keith Pearson expressed his disappointment, stating, “All law enforcement put their lives on the line every day to protect our residents. This tragedy could have been prevented if Michael Addison followed the rule of law and complied with law enforcement. Thanks to the combined efforts of law enforcement, he will be held accountable for his actions.”

Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles Executive Director Dave Kerner also spoke out, vowing to hold Addison fully accountable for the lives he’s taken and the immeasurable pain he has caused. The loss of Trooper Fink and the driver of the semi-truck has left a deep impact on the community, with FHP Colonel Gary Howze II emphasizing the feeling of loss due to the reckless decisions of one individual.

As Addison was escorted to jail, investigators made a poignant statement by securing him using the handcuffs belonging to Trooper Fink. This symbolic gesture serves as a reminder of the sacrifice made by law enforcement officers.

Michael Anthony Addison has been booked into St. Lucie County Jail without bond on charges including fleeing to elude police with lights/sirens activated and an out of county warrant from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office for aggravated battery. The investigation is ongoing, and the community mourns the loss of two lives due to the actions of one individual.
