Man Arrested in Connection to Fatal Shooting that Claimed Lives of Brother and 3-Year-Old

Plant City, Florida – Demarius Wilson has been apprehended on charges of tampering with evidence related to a tragic shooting incident that resulted in the deaths of his brother, Kemarius, and a 3-year-old child outside an apartment complex in Lakeland.

Wilson, 22, was taken into custody by the Plant City Police Department on Monday evening following an extensive search since the March 11 shooting at 1850 Cambridge Cove Circle. The incident took place at the Cambridge Cove Apartments, where four individuals were sitting in a Toyota RAV4, including 3-year-old Jaquez Norton, his 3-month-old sister, their mother Yeimarie Baez, and Robert Einzig.

According to investigators, the occupants of the RAV4 were attempting to leave the complex when three men in a white 2014 Dodge Challenger blocked them. Demarius Wilson, along with Kemarius Wilson and Kevarius Green, approached the vehicle with firearms. A confrontation ensued, leading to gunfire exchange, resulting in the tragic death of 3-year-old Jaquez Norton.

Following the shooting, Demarius Wilson and Green fled the scene in the Challenger. Kemarius Wilson was transported to Lakeland Regional Health, where he succumbed to his injuries. Authorities believe that Demarius Wilson attempted to conceal the Challenger, which was later discovered at a residence on West Crawford Street near Lincoln Avenue. He was arrested on charges of tampering with evidence.

Lakeland Police Department Chief Sammy Taylor expressed relief at Wilson’s arrest, thanking the public for their assistance and acknowledging the efforts of the Plant City Police Department. Meanwhile, Green had turned himself in to the police on March 19 and faced charges of two counts of first-degree murder, along with other offenses related to the incident.
