Salt Lake City, Utah – A 23-year-old man has been arrested in connection to the 2023 shooting that resulted in the death of 22-year-old Halapaini Moala, according to the Salt Lake City Police Department. Molitoni Vainuku has been charged with one count of murder and was booked into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail.

The arrest of Vainuku came after a lengthy investigation by the Gang Unit and Homicide Squad of the Salt Lake City Police Department. Detectives received information about Vainuku in West Valley City on March 22, leading to a coordinated effort with the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team and SWAT due to concerns about his access to firearms.

The initial incident took place on June 4, 2023, when police responded to calls about a shooting on West Market Street.
