HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Authorities in Harris County apprehended a man suspected of carjacking and assaulting an 83-year-old great-grandmother in the Aldine area. The suspect was taken into custody by sheriff’s deputies following the violent incident that occurred outside a local grocery store.
The attack took place last Thursday outside La Michoacana on Aldine Mail Route, where Lydia Sanchez was forcibly removed from her car, assaulted, and left injured. Sanchez suffered injuries including a swollen knee, split lip, and sore rib cage as she tried to defend herself by biting the attacker who then drove off in her vehicle with her purse containing a significant amount of cash.
Security footage captured the suspect driving Sanchez’s stolen vehicle before abandoning it in a restaurant parking lot. Deputies were able to trace the suspect to a hotel room at the Americas Best Value Inn off FM-1960 Road West and successfully apprehended him after he surrendered without resistance.
Authorities stated that in addition to charges related to the carjacking, the suspect is also facing accusations of aggravated robbery, felony burglary, and assault on a family member. The name and mugshot of the suspect were not immediately disclosed by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
Lt. Robert Schields praised the efforts of the apprehension team for swiftly locating and detaining the suspect, preventing further victimization of Harris County residents. The swift action taken by law enforcement underscored their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the community.
