Long Island Man Dies After Alleged Throat Slashing Inside Family Home

Police said Robert Carragher III died after being stabbed inside his family’s Massapequa house.

MASSAPEQUA, N.Y. — A 22-year-old woman has been charged with murder after police said she stabbed 28-year-old Robert Carragher III in the neck inside his family’s Massapequa home early Monday.

Nassau County police said Kristin Sculley, of Massapequa, was arrested after officers responded to a 911 call at a home on Beaumont Avenue shortly after 1:30 a.m. Carragher, known to friends as Bobby, was found with a serious stab wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said Sculley and Carragher knew each other before the attack. Police said the two had met up at the home before the stabbing, which unfolded while Carragher’s parents were inside. Authorities said Carragher was able to reach his parents after he was hurt, and his father held him as family members tried to stop the bleeding.

Police said officers found Sculley inside the home after the stabbing. A pocketknife believed to have been used in the attack was recovered, according to investigators. Officials have not released a full motive. Police said they were still reviewing what happened before the stabbing and whether drugs or alcohol played any role.

Sculley was charged with second-degree murder and pleaded not guilty at arraignment. She was ordered held without bail. Her attorney said in court that the defense would review the evidence and could examine whether self-defense is an issue in the case.

The killing drew a heavy police response to the quiet residential block, where neighbors described waking to sirens and seeing officers around the home. Carragher’s friends remembered him as Bobby and said his death stunned people who knew him.

The case remains active as Nassau County detectives continue gathering evidence. Sculley’s next court steps will determine how prosecutors move the murder charge forward.
