Las Vegas Couple Faces Multiple Felony Charges in Pet Hoarding Case Leading to Deaths

Las Vegas, Nevada – A Las Vegas couple, Carolyn Luke and Timothy Miller, are facing multiple felony charges related to animal hoarding and abuse. The Clark County District Attorney’s Office has filed 16 animal cruelty charges against the couple, one for each dog found dead in their house and hotel room. These charges stem from the discovery of numerous animals living in deplorable conditions, leading to the deaths of several pets.

District Attorney Steve Wolfson stated that the dogs were consistently deprived of basic needs such as food, water, and medical attention, resulting in organ failure and eventual death. Each animal cruelty count carries a potential penalty of up to four years in prison and a $5,000 fine. In addition to the deceased dogs, the couple also had other animals in their care, including tortoises, guinea pigs, rabbits, hamsters, and parrots.

The case against Miller and Luke came to light when Boulder City police officers found multiple animals in their car during a routine vehicle stop. Following this incident, the couple received a suspended sentence from a Boulder City Municipal Court judge and an order to seek treatment for their hoarding issues. As of now, they are prohibited from possessing any animals during their release, with their next court appearance scheduled for August 22.

The severity of the charges highlights the importance of responsible pet ownership and the consequences of neglect and abuse. Authorities are urging the public to report any suspected cases of animal hoarding or mistreatment to prevent such tragedies from reoccurring. This case serves as a reminder of the legal repercussions individuals face when failing to provide proper care for animals under their guardianship.
